Rank BU on Top Shelf of Schools Binghamton University continues to rank among the elite public universities in the nation according to more than one recently released national publication. U.S. News & World Report's 15th annual "America's Best Colleges" issue and guidebook rank Binghamton 31st in its list of top public universities -- the sixth year in a row that Binghamton has ranked among its Top 50. And Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine has ranked Binghamton University 10th best value in public universities in the nation. "Binghamton has consistently ranked well in national publications for the quality and excellence of our education, but these rankings from US News & World Report also take into consideration such factors as our reputation among our national peers and the achievements of our faculty, students and alumni," said President Lois B. DeFleur. "It's our continuous commitment to excellence that truly makes us shine." Follow this link for the entire story... There are a few courses listed in Women's Studies only, and about twenty-five courses per semester are cross-listed between Women's Studies and several other departments. For instance, "Women of Color Feminisms," taught by Maria Lugones, is cross-listed between Comparative Literature and Women's Studies. Women's Studies is also a bridge between Harpur College and some of Binghamton University's other schools. One example of this is "Holistic Health," which is cross-listed with the Decker School of Nursing. "I took Women's Studies courses in everything from Sociology to History, Philosophy and English," said Bloom. She said her Women's Studies courses, such as "Women and the Law," inspired her to pursue a career in Public Interest Law. She is now enrolled at the City University School of Law at Queens College. "I am continuing to utilize the knowledge gained by my participation in the Women's Studies program," said Bloom, "and would absolutely recommend this program to everyone." Employer
Fair 2002 Helps Students Seeking Jobs
Nearly 2,500 career-minded students had a chance to get a foot in the door with 65 employers at the Career Development Center's Employer Fair on September 18 and 19, 2002 in the Mandela Room. The companies, representing private, non-profit, and government organizations educated students about internships and full-time opportunities around the country.
Bill McCarthy, director of the Career Development Center (CDC), said thirty-five percent of the employers were recruiting students from any major. The CDC holds events throughout the year for students and alumni looking for jobs or information about graduate and professional schools. They will host a Graduate School Fair on October 1, a Law School Fair on October 2, both in the Mandela Room, an Etiquette Lunch for seniors on October 11, and a "Job Search Crash Course" on October 15, both in UU 133 "We are pleased to help our students and alumni plan their futures," said McCarthy.
